Law Enforcement Request for Media Content

SkyBell Technologies Inc. aims to preserve customer privacy while cooperating with law enforcement. 

In the event of media request by law enforcement, SkyBell Technologies will require valid documentation authorized by a court of law requesting the retention of media/content. Types of valid and legally binding requests include valid subpoena, search warrant, preservation request, or other court order. 

If the main SkyBell account holder is working in conjunction with law enforcement, it is possible for the account holder to download any pertinent video while logged into their SkyBell account providing the content was not manually deleted prior by the account holder and remains within the 7 day storage period. Once downloaded, video content is then kept indefinitely or until manually deleted off of local storage by the end user. Videos are then locally stored on the account holders' mobile device and can be transferred via shared link, email, or direct download. 

SkyBell media content is stored encrypted on a managed cloud server for 7 days from the recording/upload date. Unless manually deleted by the end-user, all video content is deleted on the 8th day of storage after the initial captured date. 

SkyBell Technologies asks that all content requests by law enforcement be handled electronically via our ticket creation system. Ticket requests will be handled in the order they are received with an aim for turn around within a 48 hour period less Sundays and non business hours.

Please include the following information
  • Valid documentation authorized by a court of law requesting the retention of media/content.
    • Types of valid and legally binding requests include valid subpoena, search warrant, preservation request, or other court order. 
  • Date and Time of requested media.
  • Model of SkyBell (Listed on the rear of the device, or attach a photo of the unit) to aid in identification. 
  • Serial Number of the SkyBell (Listed on the upper rear of the device), or The SkyBell Account Email used for the device.

SkyBell devices also work with other alarm systems and platforms.

The SkyBell in question may be in use with either Alarm.com (https://www.alarm.com) or Resideo (https://www.resideo.com/us/en/).

Each of the above companies have their own cloud hosting and retention policies, and the account may be located within their managed cloud storage networks. If the device in question is on their platforms, you would need to contact their support for assistance. Included are their contact details.
